The moment I met Becca and Coen – I just knew we would get along… They were up for any of my crazy ideas and I loved every minute of their engagement session. They made a special trip in from the Netherlands to visit family and tie up wedding details… and have their engagement session.
Needless to say, I’m super pumped for their wedding tomorrow. They might be a little photogenic…. I’m just saying.
Photo Tip: Becca had her hair and makeup done for our session. I highly recommend this to my brides… it makes you feel beautiful and that comes across in the photograph. Many thanks to Wendy with Blush by Wendy Ballance.

Rachel is such a sweetie! I’ve known her for a few years and it was truly a honor to capture her special day. Rachel and Peter chose Asheville as their winter wedding destination. I’m a big fan of winter weddings – partly, because it forces everyone to hug in pictures… and I kinda love that.
The wedding ceremony was held at the Basillica of St. Lawrence and the reception at The Crest Pavilion. The floral decor by Blossoms was simply amazing! This wedding can be summed up in one word: Magical.
Vendor Highlights:
Make up: Scott Thompson and Hair: Lola Salon and Gallery
Floral and Design: Blossoms at Biltmore Park
Wedding Coordination: Lisa McMillan with Exquisite Events and Consulting
Venue: Crest Center and Pavilion
Cake: Tiffany’s Baking Company
What an amazing weekend. I flew to New Jersey on Friday night without knowing one single person and I flew out on Sunday with new friendships and feeling like part of the family.
Alison and Brian met less than 2 years ago and it was an instantaneous connection. When it’s right – it’s right.
After the big question was popped, Alison dove in to planning the wedding. She contacted me on the advice of her bridesmaid, (shout out to Caroline!!!) who had attended a wedding I photographed last year … Alison was set on hiring me, but there was just one question….Would I come to New Jersey? ABSOLUTELY. I love to travel.
I’m always amazed by how these connections come together… I can never predict how I will book a wedding, but it is usually word of mouth, and I’m soooo appreciative of those that refer me.
Fernbrook Inn was the perfect setting for a wedding! I had so many locations to work with and a couple willing to go for my crazy ideas.
I was in photographer heaven. Alison made sure no detail was overlooked.. from mason jars filled with yummy refreshments to the custom corn-hole boards with painted silhouette’s of the couple’s profiles. – Oh- and the Rolls Royce that was originally owned by Pete Rose – seriously cool…
Truly, the best part of the day was the recessional after Alison and Brian were introduced as husband and wife. Alison, overcome with emotion, clutched Brian’s tie and cried on his shoulder. It was so moving.
Many thanks to the following vendors!!!
The Inn at Fernbrook Farms
Janet’s Weddings and Parties
Eye Candy by Mandy
Bill’s Toupee
I’m so in love with this early spring…. okay, I might not be a fan of the pollen that has invaded my home, but, it does provide perfect weather for a session like this one.
I spent Saturday afternoon with the Hornthal family (3 boys) and loved every minute. I can relate to the 3 boy thing now and I hope and pray that my boys are as well mannered as Will and Alex. Seriously, I’ve never heard someone say “yes, maam” more in my life. And, of course, sweet baby Ashe won me over with his full head of red hair and toothy grin.

Such a sweetie! It’s not often a 3 month session will go this well… we went a full hour and no tears.
Hannah is a natural in front of the camera and those baby blues? Loving them.

I spent Saturday morning photographing these beautiful young ladies.
A little rain never hurt anyone and I love the overcast light it provided… I love this age! I wish I had done something like these waaaayyyy back in the 90′s. lol.

I have said it before and I will say it again… I love my brides having babies! It is always a thrill to be part of the wedding day – but, amazing to see the life coming from that union. Corny? perhaps, but, i don’t care. I love babies.
I met Amy and Nate when they came to Marion for their engagement session in 2008. http://katycookphotography.com/blog/2008/11/11/amy-and-nate-engagement/ and now here we are with baby M on the way… LOVE IT!

I first met Susan in a crowded Starbucks in downtown Charlotte. She was sweet and warm and we really hit it off… I knew she would be fantastic to work with and I was right.
Susan and Joseph were married in at Christ Lutheran in Charlotte and their reception was held at The Duke Mansion. The accent color of the day was purple and it went so well with the color nature provided. Joseph is an amazing musician and surprised us in the evening with a ballad for his new wife…seriously? Swoon. Such a sweet moment.

many thanks to my second shooter that night: Sarah Jacobs. Love her!!
Okay, there is nothing better than a planner that has it all together. I crave organization. It makes my job as a photographer so much easier…. I would much rather focus on capturing those special moments and leave the timing and schedule to them.
Enter Hall & Webb Event Design. These girls seriously rock and I’ve enjoyed working with them so many times… I would highly recommend them to anyone in the Charlotte and surrounding area! They were even sweet enough to ask if I could answer some questions for them on a recent blog post:

I was humbled and happy to do it. Please check it out and give those girls some love. xoxo- Katy
