Katy Cook Workshop – March 19th, 2011
Well, it’s that time again. I have loved this time off and I feel rejuvenated. My slow season is Jan-Feb… and it’s awesome! A chance to wind down from the Christmas madness and really just enjoy my family. It’s kind of like a Photographer’s summer break, only it’s cold and involves lots of hot coccoa and snuggles on the couch with my boys.
It feels great to get up and go again and let me tell you… 2011 is looking like an awesome year!
So here it is…. kicking off the year with another workshop. After several e-mails/requests I’ve decided to hold another Atlanta date on March 19th. This one day workshop will be held at one of my client’s homes. I usually like to keep this to 10 people — The cost is: $300.
If you are interested, please e-mail me at: katy@katycookphotography.com Also, I just had to share this below…. My image of Bennett won 1st in the babies category for the National Association of Professional Child Photographers… pretty cool! Here’s to a great year!

Happy New Year – Best Image
2010… what a year! I photographed weddings in Ireland and Jamaica – I opened a new studio – Moved in to a new house – Started offering workshops – and so much more! I have been truly blessed.
I’m really excited about 2011 and all the possibilities both personally and professionally.
After a poll on Facebook, I am happy to post my “Image of the Year”…. I adore it. My sweet nephew, Bennett. His daddy is quite the surfer and this shot was a must have….totally worth getting to the beach at 6:30 AM

Photography Workshop – Atlanta, Ga
I’m just now blogging about this? The days are flying by this holiday season!
The Atlanta workshop was so much fun! I had a great time getting to know those who attended. Our models were amazing! I had a hard time instructing, because, I wanted to photograph these little beauties! lol. That said, I did manage a few images below… and, check out the out-take images… too funny!
I’m still working the details out for the next workshop… sometime in the spring.

whoa! i’m flexible.

Asheville, NC Children’s Photographer – Simon is 3
Well, I should say he is 3 and a 1/2! That’s what he made a point of telling me when he came in to the studio two days ago. Sweet kiddo and a personality that just doesn’t stop!
It is always to fun to see my client’s grow… I’ve known and photographed Simon since newborn and technically…before, with Samantha’s maternity photos.
Now he’s talking and jumping… and jumping.
I wanted to share a few before I head to Atlanta for my Woodstock Workshop. Looking forward to meeting some great girls and seeing my sister. Have a great weekend!!!

North Carolina Newborn Photographer – Newborn Workshop
I am just thrilled to announce yet another new venture for Katy Cook Photography! Due to high demand, I will be offering a Newborn Workshop for photographers only in Jan/Feb of next year. I am still working on the exact date, however, the location will be at my studio right outside of Asheville, NC. I’m posting an excerpt of what is to come for those attending… More info soon! If you are interested, please send an inquiry to my e-mail: katy@katycookphotography.com
Enjoy the sweet baby.

New Natural Light Studio!!!
I have always desired a natural light studio. A space where the light poured in all day and I could finally offer sessions with a fun twist. Finally, it is happening. November 1st, I move into my new space and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve had a storefront for a few years, and while it was good for meeting clients, I wanted more… and I wanted to be able to offer more…
I am still on-location and happy to come to my clients, but, I love the idea of offering another option.
To kick it off, I’m offering a huge special! A COMPLIMENTARY (that means free) In-Studio Session. Only 15 spots available, so get in touch soon! All images below were done in the new studio. Enjoy!

Gorgeous Bed “Setup” right there in the studio…

The shots below are from right outside…

3 photographers + 3 husbands + 4 kids = crazy
What can I say? I have never had a professional picture taken with my two boys/husband. Terrible. I know.
I resolved this year to correct this and collaborated with the talented Amanda Caldwell and Dana Andreasson to make it happen. So in typical fashion, we drove around and found the perfect alley… with flowers and all…
I have to say, the kids did great! Between the three of us, I think we captured some awesome family shots! Here is a little sample.
Dana’s little Olivia… I could just squeeze her!

Amanda’s hubby and precious Eva…

love these looks…

Marc took this pic of the three of us…

The Workshop
So, I just finished up my first official “workshop” over the past weekend and I had a blast! What a fun and very full Saturday. I wanted to post a few images from our shoot portion. Our models were awesome! Little Sarayah won everyone over and she was so easy to photograph. I managed to get a few of her and I’m posting them below… Special thanks to Chris Garner with TPS Photography (thanks for the help!) and a thank you to Kelsey and Robby for making the drive from Charlotte to model for us…
The next workshop is in Atlanta, GA on November 20th, 2010. If you are interested, please contact me for information! Feel free to visit: www.katycookworkshop.com
I’m also including a slideshow that I put together for the workshop.
It takes 6 secs to load.

Kerri is Married!
It was a very cold day in January. Kerri was assisting me on a wedding up in Asheville and there was snow everywhere. I was concerned about how she would get home and she mentioned her boyfriend was picking her up… from almost 3 hours away. I’ve known Kerri for quite sometime and I was surprised and (delighted) to hear this… I was even happier to learn that Kerri felt a unique connection with this guy. She mentioned, “I think this might be big”…. I’ll never forget that.
A few months later, I received the happy news and set myself up to photograph Kerri’s wedding.
And, here we are…
Kerri and Micki wanted a simple wedding with family and home all in one. How awesome that Kerri’s family happens to live on some of the most beautiful land in Banner Elk, NC. We are talking rolling hills, mature trees, pastures that go forever…. I could go on.
Shooting this wedding was a unique pleasure. Truly, I loved every moment and I won’t lie… it was a little bittersweet.

COOL DETAIL. Kerri had Hay Bales set out for seating and covered them in family quilts….

I came around the corner just in time to catch this image…

Every single flower and bouquet…. and I mean EVERY single one was grown on Kerri’s property. One word: BEAUTIFUL

Before the ceremony, Kerri and I had a quick picture taken… umm. yikes. Beauty and the big mouth beast.

one of my favorite moments. Micki writing his vows…

he had to revise the final from over 13 pages… don’t believe me? Here they are… 11 pages of vows to one girl. That is LOVE.

The ceremony was so emotional and moving. Granted, I had a personal connection, but, I was crying through a few shots…

I love this expression from Kerri! She forgot that I follow my couples out of the wedding to photograph that first moment as husband and wife.

Such a gorgeous flower girl.

Yup. I had a cool barn right there on the property. Happy me and fun pictures.

Kerri’s grandfather signing the Marriage Certificate.

no words.

Bonfire and S’mores. Perfect.

So. Yes, Kerri. You were right. I need to blog more these days. I promise to keep up.
SO HAPPY FOR YOU BOTH!
